Honesty Is Best

A poor man once lived in a village near a was a used to go to the forest to cut wood in order to sell it.

One day he went to the forest to cut wood as r he had done some work,he sat on the bank of the river to axe fell into the water and it was the only one he was not able to get it back from the river,so he began to cry.

The God Hermes appeared and asked him why he was woodcutter told him that his only axe had fallen into the river and that he was not able to get it back.

Hermes felt sorry for him,so he jumped into the water and brought up a gold said to the woodcutter,"Is this your axe?”The man an-swered,"No,it isn'es jumped again and came up with a silver axe and gave it to the the honest woodcutter would not take it because it was not the God Hermes went down into the water for the third time and brought up the man's own man was very thanked Hermes and took the es was so pleased with the honesty of this poor man that he gave him both the gold and the silver axes as presents.

When the woodcutter joined his friends,he told them how Hermes had helped him to get his axe and how he had given him the other two of his friends thought that it would be a good idea to do the same,so he went to the river and dropped his axe into the water on he sat down and es appeared and asked him why he was answered that his axe had fallen into the river.

Hermes dived and brought him a gold axe and asked him if it was man took it and said,"Yes,it's mine."Hermes was angry with the man because he was lying,so he took away the gold axe and did not even bring him back his own axe.

從前有一個窮人住在河邊的村莊裏。他是個樵夫。他過去常常到森林去砍柴賣錢。

有一天，他像往常一樣到森林裏去砍柴。 他砍了一會兒以後坐在河岸邊休息。 他的斧子掉到了河裏，這是他擁有的惟一的一把斧子。 他沒法從河裏取回斧子，所以就開始哭了起來。

神仙赫耳墨斯出現了，問他爲什麼哭。 樵夫告訴神仙他惟一的一把斧子掉到了河裏，他沒法撈上來。

赫耳墨斯爲他感到難過，於是他跳進水裏，拿上來一把金斧子。 他問樵夫：“這是你的斧子嗎?”樵夫回答：“不，不是。”赫耳墨斯又跳進水裏，出來時拿着一把銀斧子。他把他交給樵夫，但是誠實的樵夫不要，因爲那不是他的。 於是神仙赫耳墨斯第三次跳進水裏，取回了樵夫的斧子。 樵夫非常高興，感謝了赫耳墨斯，留下了自己的斧子。 赫耳墨斯對窮樵夫的誠實感到非常滿意，因此他把金斧子和銀斧子作爲禮物送給了樵夫。

當樵夫與朋友們聚在一起時，他把赫耳墨斯如何幫他取回斧子並將另外兩把斧子送給他的經過告訴了他們。他的一個朋友想，跟樵夫做同樣的.事是個好主意。於是他來到河邊，故意把斧子丟到河裏。然後坐下來開始哭。赫耳墨斯出現了，問他爲什麼哭。他回答說他的斧子掉到了河裏。

赫耳墨斯跳進水裏，帶回一把金斧子，問他這是不是他的。那人拿了金斧子說：“是，它是我的。”赫耳墨斯對他非常生氣。 因爲他說謊。 於是他拿走了那把金斧子，甚至連那人自己的斧子也不爲他取回了。
